Interesting because a friend and I were just discussing a related subject a few days ago. Specifically, how any Reverend ...*cough*Jesse*cough*... could actively support a party that seems to be against Christian values on nearly every subject.

Maybe I'll write more later, but depending on how he worded it, a Pastor is well within his rights to expect a certain standard of behavior from church members. You don't have to follow those standards to attend church by any means, but to be a member is another thing entirely. To be a member of a church you must be a born again Christian. The two are synonymous.

If he said "You have to vote Republican or you can't be in my Church." That might violate the law. If he said, in context, "If you support a party that consistently votes in a way that is contrary to our Christian values, you are not meeting a standard of behavior that I expect from our deacons and you need to either resign your membership or repent" then I think that is acceptable. I'm not sure I would take exactly that route, but it's his Church to lead. If the deacons were getting together for a weekly poker game and swilling liquor and smoking stogies, he would be within his rights to ask the same of them. Change your behavior, or resign as a deacon.

Anyway, I expect I'll get a big reaction on this. It's a tough subject, be nice to each other and think before you post, because it is also a very important subject.

Deacon is a role in the Christian Church which is generally associated with service of some kind, sportsbook, but which varies among theological and denominational traditions. In many traditions, the diaconate is a clerical office; in others, it is for laity. http://www.enterbet.com
