blahh.....

I haven’t posted in a while. That sucks. I’ve written a lot, but it always ends up relating to problems in my new company at work, and while it might be okay for some people, I’m not a big fan of public whining and airing a Company’s dirty laundry. I always end up with two or three paragraphs of stuff I’m not willing to make public so I erase it. (Okay, actually I delete it… but you knew what I meant) I’ve got about 6 more months here, I hope it doesn’t suck as bad as I think it’s going to. If it does… oh well. Duty doesn’t mean just doing it when it’s fun. Hopefully I can finish my time on the trail and survive the current personality conflict with my career intact.

(whole paragraph erased)

See… there I go again lol. Maybe I’ll be able to write something non-work related soon.

How about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu…

I’ve gotten to fight a few times lately. I have a few new sweeps I need to work on. I’ve been training with one of my buddies at work, and the more I work with him, the harder he is to beat. I need to get better at sweeps when he is stands up in my guard with his legs well posted to prevent me getting hold of both ankles. I’m going to start working on a leg binding sweep and a… I think it’s called an elevator sweep.

I started trying to use the spider guard a little more, and while I’m not really good at it yet, it is effective for setting up sweeps.

Oh yeah… and we started slapping the shit out of each other if we forget to protect our faces lol. Anytime we start trying to do something and leave our face exposed, a good smack reminds us what’s gonna happen for real if we forget. It’s easy for someone who does a lot of sport Jiu Jitsu or light training to assume that just because he has dominant body position he is free to focus solely on keeping/improving it or submitting someone. Even if you have someone in your guard, they can still knock you out pretty easily if you’re not careful… just ask Tito Ortiz.

I would like to fight in some Jiu Jitsu competitions someday, but I don’t know if I really want to go NHB (No Holds Barred or full contact)… I’ve taken quite a few punches over the years, both with and without gloves and it consistently hurts real damn bad lol. If I’ve gotta take one that’s one thing, but I don’t know if I want to go looking for them.

I can’t wait to get the hell off the trail so I can get into some civilian instruction. I really don’t know where I would stand in the ranks of a civilian dojo. I try to fight a lot… that’s always good. I suspect I would be a little better than I should be at some of the higher level stuff, and probably miserable at some basic stuff that I should have already mastered. That’s kind of my reason for wanting to try the civilian side. If I get some of the stuff we’ve bypassed, it could only make me a better fighter.

Anyway…

We went up to Bragg today to watch the pass and review for All American Week. It was NCOPD… I guess to get an idea of the magnitude of the operation since a lot of us could end up planning or executing something on that scale someday. It was cool. I didn’t see anyone I knew, but I didn’t really hang around much afterward. One of my buddies was supposed to come home from Iraq and I was going to go look him up, but it ended up getting pushed back to June sometime. I haven't seen this guy since I was a Specialist at my first duty station and he was my Section Leader. Since then, he has gone over to the dark side and become a commissioned officer. What a waste of a great NCO lol. Actually I’m sure he is a great officer as well, but he branched Signal, so I’ll never get to work for him again.

Aaaanyway…

I figured I’d better write something just to stay in practice. No telling when I’ll post again. I wouldn’t hold my breath or anything, but I never can tell when the urge is going to hit me. I used to think I wrote more when I had more time off… but that’s not always true, because I tend to do more outside when I have more free time. Then I remember thinking that I wrote more when I was in cycle, but that’s definitely not going to happen now lol. The election gave me a lot to think about, but I think I fried all the political receptors in my brain between May and November last year. I still think about all that stuff, it just isn’t as much fun to write about. Who knows…

Anyway… enough drivel…

I’m out.
